Power wash brickwork / Acid Brick washing

After Construction, some brickwork can have stubborn cement stains left on it. This is due to splashes or smearing which can occur during construction and when bricklaying is taking place. It is usually best to wait 1 week after to allow any splashes to harden slightly before removing.

Nationwide Cleaning Resources will always endeavour to remove cement stains without the use of chemicals first. This is achieved by washing the brickwork gently using a power wash and wooden tools, rather than metal, to avoid damaging the brickwork.

Only after this will we use our hydrochloric acid. Hydrochloric acid should normally only be used to remove mortar stains, this brick acid wash can help restore your bricks to their former splendour.

Step 1 -Soak the section of brickwork to be cleaned with water. This allows the acid to stay on the outside of the brickwork where the stain is and not be soaked into the brick

Step 2 -Use the proper dilution of hydrochloric acid to water. One (1) part hydrochloric acid to 20 parts water for light-coloured bricks and one (1) part hydrochloric acid to 10 parts water for dark-coloured bricks.

Step 3 -Spay the heavily affected areas with hydrochloric acid. Allow 3-6 minutes for the solutions to take effect.

Step 4 – Gently scrape and brush the areas using wooded tools the help soften any stains. No metal utensils are ever used.

Step 5 - Rinse down the brickwork.
